With the COVID19 pandemic still going strong, large gatherings of people are still not recommended. And this can be a problem for students interested in pursuing robotics, as many robot-related projects can only be done in a lab filled with other people.
Additionally, people who don’t have as much experience or money to buy expensive lab equipment for robotics should have an affordable and accessible place to start from.
That is why I have been developing a series of easy-to-make DIY robots. See the video here for some previews of the kinds of robots I have made so far.
My goal with this robot series is to be able to reach out and encourage students of middle school and high school education or higher so they can easily build, experiment with, and modify robots in the comfort of their own homes.
This robot series uses a chassis built and supplied by Adafruit Industries called the “Mini Round Robot”. It is a two wheel chassis that uses two DC motors. The entire chassis can be assembled in 5-10 minutes and requires minimal screws. This will be the starting chassis for many of GearsNGenes’s beginner robots.
I have currently developed a PCB for basic robotic movement and I am currently developing new PCBs for this robot series that can interact through other kinds of sensors (like the ones seen in the video, or through Bluetooth, and more).
Thank you for reading and please stay tuned for more content on these robots. Until then, keep building and stay creative!
